Meet Wendy

I grew up living in Pennsylvania in the northeastern region where eastern European cooking was prevalent, and in the south-central area where Pennsylvania Dutch cooking took center stage. My favorite memories are of time spent in the kitchen with my family cooking, laughing and anticipating the meal that was being prepared. There was just as much joy in the process of cooking as there was in the eating! My paternal grandmother was a gourmet of her time and my maternal grandmother was a down-home country cook, so I think I learned from the best of both worlds! It’s no wonder then, that my cooking style is a blend of the two, with Mediterranean dishes and good old home-style classics being my specialties. It is the food I grew up eating.

I am a self-taught cook, with over 40 years of cooking experience. I’ve cooked for my family and friends, cooked and served for private dinner parties, and worked for a professional caterer. I’ve also done some small group catering on my own. You could definitely say that the kitchen is my “happy place’! Since moving to Georgia 5 years ago, I’ve continued to add new recipes to my collection. The South has its own brand of comfort food, y’all…and it’s GOOD! 🙂

The time spent around the table is just as precious! Celebrations, milestones and triumphs are all centered around food! But food also brings comfort and healing during the most difficult of times. It has a way of connecting us to each other, no matter what the occasion. But in the age of fast food and chaotic schedules, the time spent with loved ones around the table is often hurried or bypassed altogether as we try to keep up with life.

It is my prayer that the “from-scratch” food and personal service of Cooking Up Blessings will be a catalyst in restoring time for families to come together again around the table. The table is where memories are made, joys are doubled and burdens are halved as we share those experiences together. I would be honored to “cook up blessings” for you and your family, and make a difference…one meal at a time.
